One letter decides whether a lens fills your sensor
Every Sony lens fits the same E mount. The name is the difference: FE is built for full-frame, plain E is built for APS-C. Both mount on both — but an E lens on a full-frame body gives you a cropped frame.
What do the letters mean?
E, FE, G and GM — the difference
FE means full-frame, plain E means APS-C. G is Sony's mid tier, GM (G Master) is the top tier, and ZA is a Zeiss-branded lens. The older A-mount is a different thing entirely — its lenses need an LA-EA adapter, and the reverse is impossible.
The speed bodies — a1 pairs resolution with speed; the a9 III has a global shutter for sport.
