Cartridge or ink tank — what it really costs per page
Canon PIXMA TS3640 uses small cartridges. A PG-445 black costs 5.900 OMR and prints about 180 pages, so each black page costs about 33 baisa. The CL-446 colour costs 6.400 OMR for about 180 pages. The PG-445 + CL-446 multipack is 12.900 OMR.
Canon PIXMA G3470 uses refillable ink bottles. A GI-41 black bottle costs 4.900 OMR and prints about 6,000 pages — under 1 baisa a page. The three colour bottles (cyan, magenta, yellow) cost 4.900 OMR each and together print about 7,700 colour pages.
The simple rule: the G3470 costs 70.100 OMR more to buy, and saves about 32 baisa on every black page. After about 2,200 pages — roughly four and a half reams of paper — it has paid for itself. Print less than that in its life? The TS3640 is the smarter buy.
What each one does
Canon PIXMA TS3640 — print, scan and copy over Wi-Fi. About 7.7 pages a minute in black and 4.0 in colour, borderless photos up to 13x18 cm, a 60-sheet rear tray, 2-sided printing by hand.
Canon PIXMA G3470 — print, scan and copy over Wi-Fi. About 11 pages a minute in black and 6.0 in colour, a 10x15 cm borderless photo in about 45 seconds, a 100-sheet rear tray, 2-sided printing by hand. The waste-ink box (MC-G04 maintenance cartridge) is replaceable by you.
HP Color LaserJet Pro 4203dn — colour laser with automatic 2-sided printing and a network (Ethernet) port, so the whole office prints to it.
Canon SELPHY CP1500 — dye-sublimation photo printer: a postcard-size print in about 41 seconds, over Wi-Fi or USB-C, with an SD card slot and a 3.5" screen. Canon rates the prints to last up to 100 years. Refills: the RP-108 ink and paper set gives 108 postcard prints.
Canon SELPHY Square QX10 — pocket printer that prints square sticker photos from the SELPHY Photo Layout app, no cables. Refills: the XS-20L ink and sticker paper set, 20 prints.
