Should you update?
Update, but read this first
From Sony's page: some settings are not carried over to 6.02, even if you saved them. If you update from 6.00 or earlier, write these down first: Network Streaming, Cloud Connection and Access Authen. settings; Switch Focus Area and Send to Smartphone on a Custom Key; the Version item in My Menu. For phone transfer and remote shooting, Sony's Creators' App replaces the older Imaging Edge Mobile app.
How to update
- Download BODYDATA.DAT (Ver. 6.02) from Sony's page (button below). You can also download it with Sony's Creators' App.
- Format a memory card in the camera (this erases it), then save BODYDATA.DAT in the root of the card. Don't rename it, and keep only one BODYDATA.DAT on the card.
- Use a fully charged NP-FZ100 battery (the update needs at least three bars) and detach the vertical grip.
- Put the card in slot 1: only slot 1 reads the update.
- On the camera: MENU > Setup > Setup Option > Version > Body, choose Software Update, then Execute.
- It takes about 6 minutes. Don't remove the battery or the card. The camera restarts by itself; press OK on "Body update complete".
A camera still on version 1.01 or earlier must update to 1.05 first, or the update fails.
