Update now
Worth it for video and manual-focus users. The new functions work only with compatible cameras.
How to update
- Download the lens firmware from Canon's page (button below). The download has the firmware file (001207.afu) and Canon's own update instructions (PDF).
- Read Canon's PDF first and follow it: the update runs from a compatible EOS camera with the lens attached.
- Canon says to keep only the firmware file on the memory card.
- Use a fully charged battery, and don't switch the camera off or remove the lens during the update.
- Afterwards, check the lens version in the camera menu.
