Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III firmware update

Latest version: 1.4.0 · 6 Nov 2025

Update, but read this first

What's new

  • Removes some network functions to meet the EU RED EN18031 standard: Image Upload (sending images to image.canon) is disabled, and FTP Transfer & Live Streaming are no longer available.
  • Canon: this only affects cameras purchased in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa); cameras bought elsewhere keep these functions. Once installed, it cannot be reversed.
  • Adds support for the NB-15L battery pack.

Should you update?

Update, but read this first

Read first: if you use live streaming, FTP transfer or image upload, Canon says don't install 1.4.0, because on cameras bought in Europe, the Middle East or Africa these functions are removed and can't come back.

How to update

  1. Download firmware 1.4.0 for the PowerShot G7 X Mark III from Canon's page (button below) and unzip it. The folder also has Canon's own instructions (PDF).
  2. Format (initialise) a memory card in the camera, then copy only the firmware file (PSG73140.FIR) to the top level of the card, not inside a folder. Canon: unneeded or old firmware files on the card can make the update fail.
  3. Before the update, remove any external Speedlite and all other accessories from the camera. Insert a fully charged battery and the card.
  4. Turn the camera on, set the shooting mode to P, press MENU and choose [Firmware Ver.X.X.X] in the Set-up tab. Select [OK] and follow the screen to start the update.
  5. Don't turn the camera off, open the card slot cover or press any buttons until the update has finished (on some models the "Update is complete" screen doesn't appear). Afterwards, format the card again before you use it.

This page is for the standard G7 X Mark III. Canon lists its own firmware (1.4.2) for the PowerShot 30th Anniversary Edition model.

Canon's own step-by-step instructions are the PDF inside the download: if they differ from these steps, follow Canon's PDF.

Let us update it for you
