Canon EOS R10 firmware update

Latest version: 1.8.0 · 27 Apr 2026

Update, but read this first

What's new

  • Adds support for Canon's Software Development Assistance Kit (EDSDK).
  • Fixes Err70 during Bluetooth communication caused by interference from other Bluetooth devices.
  • Fixes Err70 when shooting repeatedly in "High-speed continuous shooting +".
  • Fixes the camera sometimes not being recognised when connected to a smartphone by USB.
  • Improves other system stability. Canon updated the web manual too.
  • Coming from older than 1.7.0, you also get 1.7.0: a password must be set at first setup (with a history of changes to the password, network and other settings), firmware updates over the internet, and fixes for the camera freezing with [One-Shot AF→Servo AF] and for image stabilisation stopping with an EF lens.

Should you update?

Update, but read this first

Read first: coming from a version older than 1.7.0, Canon's 1.7.0 security change comes too: you must set a password.

How to update

  1. Download firmware 1.8.0 for the EOS R10 from Canon's page (button below) and unzip it. The folder also has Canon's own instructions (PDF).
  2. Format (initialise) a memory card in the camera, then copy only the firmware file (R1018000.FIR) to the top level of the card, not inside a folder. Canon: unneeded or old firmware files on the card can make the update fail.
  3. Before the update, remove the lens, any external Speedlite and all other accessories from the camera. Insert a fully charged battery and the card.
  4. Turn the camera on, set the shooting mode to P, press MENU and choose [Firmware Ver.X.X.X] in the Set-up tab. Select [OK] and follow the screen to start the update.
  5. Don't turn the camera off, open the card slot cover or press any buttons until the update has finished (on some models the "Update is complete" screen doesn't appear). Afterwards, format the card again before you use it.

Canon's own step-by-step instructions are the PDF inside the download: if they differ from these steps, follow Canon's PDF.

Let us update it for you

Book an appointment and our salesman updates your device in our showroom: 2.000 OMR if you bought it from Skyorbits, 5.000 OMR if you bought it elsewhere (incl. VAT, paid in the showroom).

When you book, type the version your device shows now (see How to update above). He checks it first: if your device is already up to date, he tells you and you don't need to come.

We take each update's notes from the maker's own page. An update can reach devices in Oman a few days after it is published. Every fact double-checked against the maker's page: 17-10-2026
