The Wacaco Nanopresso is hand powered. Its patented pumping system reaches a maximum of 18 bars (261 PSI) using nothing but your hands, which is why the shot comes out with a proper crema instead of the thin coffee most travel makers produce.
It works two ways. With finely ground coffee, tamped hard, straight into the basket. Or with the NS Adapter that is included in this set, which lets it take Nespresso Original compatible capsules — already ground, measured and tamped, so the result is the same cup every time and there is almost nothing to clean.
One thing to know before you buy: the Nanopresso does not heat the water. You pour hot water in. That is how it stays this small and needs no power at all.
