The bright f/1.8 aperture and a 9-blade diaphragm separate a subject cleanly and keep highlights round, and an STM stepping motor with internal focusing keeps autofocus fast and quiet for both stills and video, with the barrel length fixed. It focuses down to 0.34m for 0.15× magnification, takes 58mm filters, has a rubber-sealed mount and a water- and smudge-resistant front element for shooting in light rain or dust, and updates its own firmware over USB-C.
