Reach further, carry less
The built-in Optical Image Stabilizer delivers up to 5.5 stops of correction at 400mm, rising to 6 stops on bodies with in-body stabilisation such as the EOS R5 and EOS R6 thanks to coordinated lens-and-camera control. That keeps distant subjects sharp at the long end, handheld, without a tripod.
Fast, quiet autofocus
A Nano USM motor with a rear-focusing design drives focus quickly, quietly and smoothly — suited to stills and to video, where focus noise would otherwise be picked up by the microphone.
Optics built for clarity
One UD element and one aspherical element work together to suppress chromatic aberration and hold sharpness across the zoom range, while the 9-blade circular aperture renders smooth, rounded background blur. Maximum magnification is 0.41x at 400mm.
Go longer when you need to
The lens accepts the Canon Extender RF1.4x and RF2x, taking the maximum reach to 560mm or 800mm. The filter thread is 67mm.
