Why does your video look great and sound like it was shot through a wall?
Bad audio is the fastest way to lose a viewer — people forgive shaky video, they don't forgive a mic that clips, hisses, or sounds three rooms away. The good news: fixing it usually costs less than the lens you already own.
Buy a clip-on wireless system — Rode Wireless GO (Gen 3) or DJI Mic 3 — if you're one or two people talking straight to camera: vlogs, interviews, reviews, on-location content. Buy a desktop USB/XLR mic — Rode PodMic USB & XLR — if you sit in one spot to record: podcasting, streaming, voiceover. Buy a handheld field recorder — Zoom H4essential — if you need to capture more than two voices, or real ambient sound, in a single take. Most creators only need the first category; the recorder and desktop mic are for once your setup gets more serious.
The pattern that decides it: how many people are talking, and whether the mic needs to travel with you or sit still on a desk.
