Sony a7R V firmware update
Update, but read this firstWhat's new
- Spot XL and Custom 1-3 focus areas (and their Tracking versions), a Golden Ratio grid, and a larger menu display.
- OK/NG/KEEP flags on clips, Relay Playback, playback filters such as Rating, and both cards' remaining capacity during relay or simultaneous recording.
- FTP: scheduled and automatic transfers, auto-protect after transfer, and priority transfer.
- Write Digital Signature for stills and movies and Volume Photography License commands (both need a paid Sony licence), multiple IPTC presets, and focus map display in the Monitor & Control app.
- Fixes focus not reaching infinity in Focus Bracketing, and colour varying in exposure brackets in lossless compressed RAW.
- The Security (IPsec) function and WPA/WEP Wi-Fi are no longer supported.
Should you update?
Update, but read this first
Read first: Sony says some settings reset even from a saved settings file (Monitor Flip Direction, Network Streaming, Cloud Connection, Access Authen., and some Custom Key and My Menu items), so write them down. From 1.00, the Imaging Edge Mobile app stops connecting: use the Creators' App. If you update from 1.00 and use a GP-VPT2BT or RMT-P1BT remote, delete it in the camera's Bluetooth settings, then pair it again.
How to update
- Download BODYDATA.DAT from Sony's page (button below). You can also download it with Sony's Creators' App.
- Format a memory card in the camera (this erases it), then save BODYDATA.DAT in the root of the card. Don't rename it, and keep only one BODYDATA.DAT on the card.
- Use a fully charged NP-FZ100 battery (the update only runs at three bars or 51% and up) and detach the vertical grip.
- Put the card in the camera. On the camera: MENU › Setup › Setup Option › Version › Body, choose Software Update, then Execute.
- It takes about 6 minutes. Don't remove the battery or the card. The camera restarts by itself when it is done.
If the camera is hot, the update may not start: wait for it to cool down.
Put the card in slot 1: only slot 1 reads the update.
