Ask your question

Day one — 6 steps

1

Charge & insert

Charge the battery fully before first use. Insert a fast SD card (UHS-I U3 / V30 or better).

2

Format the card in the camera

Not on your laptop. Do it each time after you have saved your photos.

3

Set date, time & language

Your photos will be sorted correctly forever.

4

Attach the strap

Keep it on your wrist or neck. Most drops happen in the first week.

5

Start in AUTO

Learn to frame and focus first. Move to other modes when you are ready.

6

Hold it right

Right hand on the grip, left hand under the lens, elbows tucked in. Sharper photos, instantly.

The 3 settings behind every photo

All three control light. Change one and, in the automatic modes, the camera balances the rest.

SettingWhat it doesSimple rule
Aperture (f)How wide the lens opens. Smaller number = more light and a blurry background.Portraits: smallest f-number. Groups & landscapes: f/8.
Shutter speedHow long the shutter stays open.Moving kids: 1/500 s or faster. Still scenes: 1/60 s is fine.
ISOHow sensitive the sensor is. Higher = brighter but grainier.Leave on ISO Auto. Daylight keeps it low by itself.

4 habits that change your photos

Focus on the eyes

Half-press to lock focus, check the green box is on the eyes, then press fully.

Compose with thirds

Switch on the grid. Put people and horizons on the lines, not dead centre.

Light beats gear

Face your subject toward the light. Avoid people standing in front of a bright window.

Back up every week

Keep photos in 2 places — a laptop or drive, plus the cloud. A card is not a backup.

Oman care tips — read these, they save cameras

  • Heat: never leave the camera or batteries in a parked car. A summer car gets far hotter than any camera is designed for.
  • Condensation: going from a cold AC room into humid air (Muscat, or Salalah in khareef) fogs the lens. Keep the camera in its bag for 10–15 minutes before you take it out.
  • Sand & dust: change lenses with the camera facing down, out of the wind. Clean with a blower — never your breath or your sleeve.
  • Sea spray: wipe the body with a soft dry cloth after a beach day.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do first with a new camera?

Charge the battery fully, insert the memory card and format it in the camera menu, set the date and time, and start in AUTO. Once framing and focus feel easy, try the other modes.

Which memory card does my camera need?

Most cameras work with a fast SD card (UHS-I U3 / V30 or better), which also handles 4K video. Some pro cameras need CFexpress — check your manual or ask us. Memory cards and storage.

Why are my photos blurry?

Usually the shutter speed is too slow or focus landed in the wrong place. Half-press and check the focus box is on the face, hold the camera with both hands and elbows tucked in, and use 1/500 s or faster for movement.

Do you answer questions about cameras not bought from you?

Yes — any camera, any brand. The “I bought this camera from Skyorbits” tick just helps us find your order and warranty faster.

How do I protect my camera from Oman's heat and humidity?

Never leave it in a parked car, keep it in its bag for 10–15 minutes when moving from a cold AC room into humid air so the lens does not fog, and change lenses out of the wind and sand.
