In September 2024 we put two Fujifilm X100VI bodies on the shelf. Two days later there were none. That happened again with the next shipment, and the one after that, for two straight years. This is the story of how one small camera made people willing to wait.
A camera from 1960, in a world of phones
Fujifilm released the X100VI in February 2024: a fixed 35mm-equivalent lens that never changes, a 40-megapixel sensor, stabilisation built into a body the size of a paperback, and twenty film simulations that give you a finished look straight out of the camera. No zoom. Almost no choices. That turned out to be the entire appeal.
It became the most preordered camera in Fujifilm's history.
Then the manufacturer apologised
Weeks after launch, in March 2024, Fujifilm published a shortage notice — an apology, asking customers to be patient. Think about that: a company saying sorry because its product worked too well.
Fujifilm said it was building the X100VI at four times the rate of its predecessor and still couldn't meet demand. When people accused it of creating scarcity deliberately, it denied it and said every unit it made went straight out the door. The shortage ran through all of 2025. In April 2026 it was reported that Fujifilm asked retailers to stop taking orders altogether — with no discontinuation ever announced.

The lottery
For its 90th anniversary Fujifilm built a limited edition X100VI — 1,934 units for the entire world, the number being the year the company was founded. Each one numbered, engraved with the original 1934 logo, boxed with a special strap and cards from the company's history. It wasn't sold first-come-first-served. It was sold by ballot.
It sold out in under a minute. Within days it was on resale sites at $4,000 to $5,000 against a $1,999.95 list price, and one listing appeared at $18,000.
That is not a story about a camera. It's a story about wanting something.
What it does to the person holding it
Read enough long-term reviews and the same sentence keeps appearing: it's a joy. Not sharper, not faster — a joy. The thing people describe is walking out of the house with one small camera in a jacket pocket, no bag of gear, and coming home with pictures they're proud of. The film simulations mean you shoot more and edit less, so the work actually gets finished instead of sitting on a hard drive for a year.
And to be fair: the battery is weak and won't last a full day of shooting, sometimes not even half a day on the street. The autofocus is slower and louder than you'd expect in 2026. Anyone who tells you this camera has no faults is selling you something.
None of it stopped anybody. What this camera really gives you isn't a specification — it's a habit. It makes you carry a camera every day, and that habit is what brings people back to photography.
The award
The X100VI won EISA's Compact Camera award for 2024-2025.

Our first two X100VI bodies arrive. Both black.
Both are sold. The same day, a message arrives from someone who saw a story of the Fujifilm boxes stacked in the showroom: "how much is the XT5? and the X100VI?" We answered 689 rials. He replied with a red heart. The camera was already gone.
Three land. All three are invoiced the next day.
Four land. None survive to the new year.
That became the rhythm for two years. A box arrives, and within days the shelf is empty again.
50X100VI bodies sold since that first pair — and not one person has ever bought two.
Half the people who tried to buy one never got it. They stopped at the cart or at the quote, because the colour they wanted wasn't there. And we have never discounted this camera, not once: 689.000 OMR in September 2024, 759.000 OMR today, VAT included. A camera that gets older and more expensive. When did you last see a piece of technology do that?
The questions never stopped either. From September 2024 to June 2026 — twenty-one months — the same message kept arriving: when does it arrive? Often the only honest answer we had was "two to three weeks." People waited anyway.

كاميرا من الستينات في زمن الجوالات
نزّلت فوجي فيلم كاميرا X100VI في فبراير 2024: عدسة ثابتة ما تتغير، ومستشعر 40 ميجابكسل، ومثبّت داخل جسم بحجم كتاب صغير، وعشرين محاكاة أفلام تعطيك الصورة جاهزة من الكاميرا مباشرة. ما فيها زوم، وما فيها خيارات كثيرة. وهذا بالضبط سر جاذبيتها.
وصارت أكثر كاميرا تُحجز مسبقاً في تاريخ فوجي فيلم.
وبعدها اعتذرت الشركة
بعد أسابيع قليلة من نزولها، في مارس 2024، نشرت فوجي فيلم بياناً تعتذر فيه عن نقص الكميات وتطلب من زبائنها الصبر. تخيّل الوضع: شركة تعتذر لأن منتجها نجح زيادة عن اللزوم.
قالت الشركة إنها تصنّع X100VI بأربعة أضعاف سرعة تصنيع الجيل اللي قبلها، ومع ذلك ما لحقت على الطلب. ولما اتهمها البعض إنها تفتعل النقص، نفت ذلك وقالت إن كل قطعة تنتجها تخرج للزبائن مباشرة. النقص استمر طوال 2025. وفي أبريل 2026 نُقل إن فوجي طلبت من الموزعين إيقاف الطلبات نهائياً — بدون أي إعلان رسمي بإيقاف الإنتاج.

القرعة
بمناسبة مرور 90 سنة على تأسيسها، طرحت فوجي فيلم نسخة محدودة من X100VI — 1,934 قطعة للعالم كله، والرقم هو سنة تأسيس الشركة. كل قطعة مرقّمة، وعليها شعار فوجي الأصلي من 1934، ومعها حزام خاص وبطاقات من تاريخ الشركة. وما انباعت بمبدأ "اللي يجي أول"، بل بالقرعة.
نفدت في أقل من دقيقة. وخلال أيام ظهرت في مواقع البيع بأسعار 4,000 إلى 5,000 دولار مقابل سعر رسمي 1,999.95 دولار، وواحد عرضها بـ 18,000 دولار.
هذي مو قصة كاميرا. هذي قصة رغبة.
وش تسوي فيك هالكاميرا
إذا تقرأ تجارب أصحابها بعد سنة أو سنتين، تلاحظ نفس الكلمة تتكرر: "متعة". مو أدق ولا أسرع — متعة. اللي يوصفونه إنك تطلع من البيت بكاميرا وحدة في جيبك، بدون شنطة معدات، وترجع بصور تفتخر فيها. ومحاكاة الأفلام تخليك تصوّر أكثر وتعدّل أقل، فيخلص شغلك بدل ما يقعد سنة على الهارد.
ومن باب الإنصاف: البطارية ضعيفة وما تكفي يوم تصوير كامل، وأحياناً ولا نص يوم في الشارع. والفوكس التلقائي أبطأ وأعلى صوتاً من المتوقع في 2026. واللي يقول لك إن هالكاميرا بلا عيوب فهو يبي يبيعك شي.
ومع ذلك ما وقّف أحد. لأن اللي تعطيك إياه هالكاميرا مو مواصفات — تعطيك عادة. تخليك تحمل كاميرا كل يوم، وهذي العادة هي اللي ترجّع الناس للتصوير.

وصلتنا أول قطعتين X100VI. كلهن أسود.
انباعت القطعتين. وفي نفس اليوم وصلتنا رسالة من واحد شاف ستوري فيه كراتين فوجي مركومة في المعرض: "بكم الـXT5؟ والـX100VI؟". قلنا له 689 ريال. رد بقلب أحمر. والكاميرا كانت خلاص راحت.
وصلت ثلاث قطع. وانباعت الثلاث في اليوم اللي بعده.
وصلت أربع قطع. ما لحقن نهاية السنة.
وهذا صار الإيقاع لسنتين كاملة: شحنة تنزل، وخلال أيام يفضى الرف.

ونصف اللي حاولوا يشترونها ما وصلتهم أصلاً؛ وقفوا عند السلة أو عند عرض السعر، لأن اللون اللي يبونه مو موجود. وما نزّلنا سعرها ولا مرة وحدة: 689.000 ريال في سبتمبر 2024، واليوم 759.000 ريال شامل الضريبة. كاميرا تكبر بالعمر ويطلع سعرها. متى آخر مرة شفت جهاز يسوي كذا؟
والأسئلة بعد ما وقفت. من سبتمبر 2024 إلى يونيو 2026 — واحد وعشرين شهر — ونفس الرسالة تجينا: متى يوصل؟. ومرات كان كل اللي نقدر نقوله بصدق: "بعد أسبوعين إلى ثلاثة". والناس تنتظر فعلاً.
